4 Ways to Leave a Place of Stagnation

Have you been entertaining the lies of the enemy? Are you experiencing fear, anxiety, insecurity?

The enemy’s strategy is to inflict you with his lies, adverse circumstances, stagnation to hinder you from moving forward. If he can get you to believe him, you will remain stagnated, fearful, frustrated.

Your mind is the battlefield of the devil, and the way for Christians to battle is with the Sword of the Spirit: the Word of God.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

romans 12:2

We overcome by God’s word sown into our hearts as we read it, hear it, speak it and do it.

When the children of Israel refused to hear God’s word through his servant, Moses, it cost them their destiny (their promised land). It really was a sad state of affairs:

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

>>>>>

22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

>>>>>

39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord? but it shall not prosper.

42 Go not up, for the Lord is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.

44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

exodus 14:2-4;22-23;39-45

When we refuse to hear and do what God says, He likens this as turning away from Him. And while He will never leave or forsake us, we will not move forward into His promises for us.

It is most unfortunate that most of God’s children die in the wilderness, because of ignorance, disobedience, fearfulness.

Israel kept looking to their past, which was Egypt. God delivered them from that place, as He has delivered us from bondage (and continues to do so as we trust and obey Him). But because they kept reverting back to what felt comfortable (even though it was bondage to them), they did not have the fortitude to press through the pain and into the promise.

You Can Not Possess Your Future Looking Back at the Past

You have to let go of past hurts, let go of unforgiveness, and your comfort zone. God calls us out into the deep. And you have to trust God that He will not allow you to drown.

My husband and I had a saying when we were out in the mission field traveling on nothing but faith: “If you are scared, go back home.” (God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind).

I did not want to go back home. As pressing as it was ministering out there in the highways and byways of America, I knew that “back there” represented death in the wilderness. It did not hold the promise for my family and me. So, I had to gain spiritual fortitude and press forward. (Shout out and honor to my husband, who was/is the captain of this ship and was relentless in his pursuit to follow God’s will).

Perhaps, you find that you are navigating a wilderness experience. You may feel overwhelmed, indecisive, and anxious about your future. This season can be as complex or as simple as we make it to be. We make it complex when we try to use worldly knowledge to solve a spiritual problem.

For example, I am reminded of a couple whom we met a number of years ago in Orlando, Florida. I distinctly remember the wife who expressed to me how restless she was, and how she’d like to be doing what I was doing (traveling the country ministering the Gospel).

Over the next few years, she really struggled in her marriage. She was experiencing a wilderness season in her marriage which ended in divorce.

A few days ago, the Holy Spirit put her on my mind and was speaking to me about how wives should handle that situation in their marriage.

Whenever a wife starts to get restless and feels like she wants to do more than what she has been doing, and she wants to contribute more to God’s Kingdom, then she has to take this concern to Him. God probably is calling her to do more for Him, but she has to consecrate herself to Him, and He will lead her to her new venture in Him. Surrender it all to Him woman of God.

There are way too many divorces in Christian marriages. This is because we are walking in the counsel of the ungodly and not seeking God.

How to Gain Spiritual Fortitude To Move Forward?

To keep moving forward, you need the Word of God flowing through your life. The Word of God is the power of God. The Bible says to be filled with the Spirit. We are filled with the Spirit when we fill our hearts and mind with the Word. God’s Word is anointed to bring itself to pass; when we live by the Word, we will manifest what the Word says.

To press through the pain, leave the past behind and, press into our future we must:

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
