Seven Ways To Battle for Your Mental Health and Win

The Bible admonishes us to put on the whole armor of God (Read Ephesians 6). But one may wonder what is the armor of God and how does one put it on?

War Cry

Just in case you have forgotten (or not at all aware), I am here to remind you that we are in a real war. This is not a war of physical nature, but one of a spiritual nature whereby if you profess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, Satan has declared war against you. You are in direct opposition to spiritual darkness; when your enemy strikes, will you know what to do? If you learn how to put on your spiritual armor and use it, you will be prepared for the battle for your mind.

How to Win the War on Your Mind

The Helmet of Salvation – A helmet protects our head or put another way, our thoughts. The war is waged first in our minds. Our mind is a battlefield that the enemy relentlessly attacks to break us down. We must renew our minds with the Word of God to “hit” our opponent and resist his lies.

The Belt of Truth – Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”, Jesus is not only the Truth, He is The Word (John 1:1,14). When you wear The Belt of Truth, that means you walk in the truth of God’s Word. God’s Word is our “shield and buckler”. It protects us when we walk in obedience to it.

The Breastplate of Righteousness – I am the righteousness of God because of the sin debt that Jesus brought on Himself, and gave me His right standing with God (His righteousness). I no longer have to walk in condemnation because I am in Christ Jesus. I don’t walk according to the flesh (the sinful nature), but according to the Spirit (His Spirit that dwells within me). This means that when sin presents itself to me, He has already given me an escape route and will not suffer me to be tempted above that which I am able to bear. However, if I do sin, God has promised that He will forgive me of my sin, when I confess it to Him, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness; and I can break free and declare that “I am the righteousness of God by Christ Jesus”.

The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – The Gospel is the Good News that Jesus (Who is The Prince of Peace) came to give us and He said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: Not as the world giveth, give I unto you”. Put on the Shoes of Peace and receive His peace that surpasses understanding.

The Shield of Faith – It “quenches every fiery dart of the wicked one”. When you are walking in faith (knowing that God has your back, no matter what), then there is nothing that the Devil can do to tear you down. “Behold, I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. (Luke 10:19)

The Sword of the Spirit – Which is the Word of God. The Word of God says of itself, that it is sharper than any two-edged sword. The word of God flowing from your mouth is like wielding a sword, cutting down the strategies of the enemy against you.

Prayer – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Warfare scriptures: Isaiah 54:19, Psalms 91, James 4:7, Zechariah 4:6, John 10:10, Matthew 18:18-19, John 8:32, Romans 12:21, Revelation 12:11, Joshua 1:9, I John 3:8, II Chronicles 20:15

Here Is How I Put On The Armor of God Daily:

“I put on the helmet of salvation which delivers me from the dominion of sin, the breastplate of righteousness – I am the righteousness of God by Christ Jesus, the belt of truth – I walk in the truth of God’s Word, the shoes of the Gospel of peace – Jesus is my Peace, I take up the shield of Faith which quenches all of the fiery darts of the wicked one and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God flowing from my mouth to defeat the enemy in my life, my loved ones and others” Amen.

Grace and Peace to you.
